Help with tracking word count/targets at chapter and section level

I’m hoping there’ll be a fairly simple answer to this! I track word counts and set targets for each individual document I have within a chapter and that works fine… however, what I would also like to be able to do is to track the overall word count/progress towards target at the next level up, i.e. for the chapter. I would have thought there was a way of doing this, so that every time I wrote more on an individual document, the total word count for the chapter would automatically update. But this doesn’t seem to be happening - when I look in Outliner mode it just says 0 words for the chapter, even though it’s showing the word count for any document within that chapter.

Not sure if that makes sense?! Any help gratefully received!

Quite doable and viewable in Outline View.

I set targets at Chapter-level, hence a zero target at Scene-level. Not that I’m good at sticking to targets. I view them more like suggestions that tend to take care of themselves.

Anyway, in the insert you’ll see the Total Words column, where the Chapters are the cumulative sum of the Scenes and the Parts of the cumulative sum of the chapters. It’s all automated by Scrivener.

Aha, that makes sense - a simple fix! Thank you

Hmm…I think you are both talking about the Outline in Scrivener on Windows or Mac?

Not such a view on iOS/iPadOS, I suspect, unless it’s been hiding from me the years
