Hmm, I wonder if perhaps we are talking about different things. One thing I’m a little foggy on is what you mean by this:
The search terms are not highlighted when I open a doc in Collections after a project search.
What does it mean to open a doc in collections? What sort of menu command or action are you taking to do that? The closest thing I can think of that matches that description is if you select a search result item from the left sidebar, then go and right-click in the editor header bar and use the “Reveal in Collection” submenu, to show this selected item in the selected collection. That then changes the sidebar, and the search highlights vanish. Is that right?
So presumably you did that to switch to something in the collection that is not in search results—so you do that. But then what would search highlights be highlighting, if that item didn’t match the search to begin with?
There are ways to end up in a valid scenario where that is the case, but it would take a little extra configuration, which isn’t being mentioned here. Extenuating circumstances aside though, if you are doing that, and switch back to the “Search Results” tab, if there is anything to highlight in the text you have switched to via the collection, you should see it highlighting. That is how you, as put, “bring the search back to active mode”.
Sometimes I need a few read thrus to find if only one occurrence in a lengthy doc, so can be time consuming.
To return to this one—this is part of where I think I may not be understanding what you are doing, because switching to a Collection wouldn’t help you do that.
By the way, try the ⌘G
shortcut (if it is easier you can use ⌘F
to open the Find panel, and then use the Next button, which is what that G shortcut does). In most cases that will jump straight to the next highlighted spot in a search result. It should be very rare that you have to manually scroll around looking for highlights.
