Highlighted word look up within dictionary/thesaurus slow to respond

When I highlight a word with the intent of looking it up within Scrivner’s linked dictionary/thesaurus the menu by which I am able to select, for example, ‘Look up in dictionary’ takes approximately ten seconds to appear. The lag time is stifling my creative flow!!! I am running on a M3 Mac with the latest Scrivner update. Please advise. Advance thanks. MickEel

Something must be wrong with your system. It’s immediate here on an M2 with latest Scrivener ans macOS, and always has been for ten years or more. Try a reboot.

One thing: there’s no need to highlight the word. You only need place the cursor within it. Also, it’s worth assiging a keyboard shortcut to that function if you use it a lot. It makes things much quicker and minimises the stifling of ones creative flow.

Thank you for shared wisdom. I have rebooted, and I am a long time Scrivner user - My M3 Mac is new and I’m wondering if this is a compatibility issue with Scrivner as this feature is immediate, as you tell of and I have always known up until now, on all other applications???

Actually - the issue seems to have resolved itself - I just worked with Scrivner again and while it still takes about a second for the menu to pop up and offer me the option to look up a words info, I can live with that. It’s my first time using Scrivner on the new Mac - maybe it just needed a little time to get all its bells and whistles in place…

You might check the settings for the Apple Intelligence tools. If Mac OS is invoking the AI subsystem for something that should be a straightforward dictionary lookup, that could definitely slow it down.

(And, to be clear, that’s not something that Scrivener can control.)
