How can you recover themes from an old save?

Hi there! I was showing a friend of mine how to use Scrivener and was going through the option of saving a theme. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that the current theme I was using wasn’t properly saved, so when I switched over to some old ones to show her, I realized that I lost my old theme.

I have backups of my project and have already tried opening the backup. I wasn’t able to pull up the theme that was used in that backup, though.

I wanted to see if there is a solution to this, or if I’m doomed to re-create my theme from memory?

Thank you, any help would be appreciated!

Themes are not stored in the project, but inside Scrivener’s Application Support files. If you have a Time Machine backup (You do have a Time Machine backup, don’t you?), that would be the place to look.

To find the path for the files, use Scrivener’s Reveal Support Folder in Finder command, and look for the Themes subfolder.

Darn, I never set up Time Machine on my laptop. Oh well.

My goodness. That was the first thing I did when I (for a large portion of my work) moved from Win 10 + 11 to Mac mini in December. And one of the things that I really appreciate in Mac-land. Especially with Scrivener or other big project (many file) programs. (and yes, I also have other backup and (separately) sync strategies).
A quick check in this forum will show how often this issue arises (if only I had that version from ‘x’).
Please note, I have my own list of fails and am in no way gloating. I am just highlighting this here so others not yet operating safely have a chance to protect themselves.

You can never have too many backups.
