How do I Retain Right Margin in Compile?

Hello, I created a style that includes an increased left margin and a right margin (to differentiate a letter in one of the scenes of my novel). After I compile an epub or mobi file and validate it on my Kindle, the left margin setting looks correct, however, the right margin is completely ignored. I’ve used Format Paragraph as well as edited the style using the Styles Panel and tried moving the ruler/setting the right margin to be wide ranges but still, the changes aren’t reflected. Am I missing something?

Also, is there a way to set the indentation based on the percentage of the width so that an indentation is reflected on multiple devices? Ideally, I’d want to have a centered, justified block of text.

Thanks!

Hi Markusaz.
Welcome to the forum.

Check this one out. Likely you’ll find your answer in this post linked below.

Thanks very much, Vincent. So I’d have to edit the compiled MOBI or EPUB file using Sigil vs. adjusting the right margin in Scrivener itself? I did create the style, however, it’s not taking the right margin setting. I can check out Sigil if that’s the only route. Thanks again, M

If all you want for it is to be centered, use

That’ll give you a right margin of the left one’s current value.

Add the concerned style to the list using image , and check that option.
That’s all it takes.

Sigil is an alternative, or the way to go if you want odd/uneven margins.

Here’s why :

In a standard WYSIWYG text editor, your left and right indents/margins are thought like this :

One on the left, one on the right.

But in Scrivener, the page is infinite. So there is no right side to be relative to.
(The “page” has a top and a left side, that’s it.)
So the indents/margins are rather thought/set like this :

Both of them are relative to the left side.

An ereader doesn’t work like that. So compiling you need to tell Scrivener what to do now that there is a right side to actually be relative to.
Or in other words: you never actually had a right indent/margin prior to this point.
