I say ‘Scrivvener’. A friend says ‘Scrive-ner’. What do you say, Scrivener makers?
The OED agrees with you (and me):
(ˈskrɪv(ə)nə®)
Cheers,
Brian
The only pronunciation in the full version of the Oxford English Dictionary is:
(ˈskrɪv(ə)nə®)
The stress is on the first syllable, with the i being pronounced as it is in those three words (it is in). The e’s are pronounced as an indeterminate vowel sound, as is usual with an unstressed syllable. The stress pattern is therefore the same as with the name Kitchener.
Martin.
Well I guess that makes it unanimous.
B.
Hah! I was right!
