I would like space Bullet space, not tab bullet tab, as default.
thanks in advance for your time and help
Hi.
You can adjust the value of a TAB for a document.
But since you said you want spaces and not TABs, I’ll skip that.
[EDIT: I’ve just played with it a little, and I don’t think you can even set it for a list.]
I think that the solution in your case would be to use Edit / Find / Find... to replace those TABs for spaces afterwards.
⮚ Note that you’ll lose the visual rendering of hierarchy in your list. (Where you had two TABs, you’ll end up with two spaces, making the hierarchy almost invisible. And if you ever use the function to clean out accidental double-spaces, gone completely, aside from the bullet being different, if it was, initially.)
Alternatively, you could set a replacement like bbb = • and insert your bullets manually, your list not actually being a formatted list.
You could also use a table with no visible frame. (But at this point you’d be in the “messing around” side of things – in my opinion. What I mean is that you’d have to merge cells whenever you don’t want the text to wrap early, etc. …A lot of work for little results.)
May I ask why you want to use spaces rather than TABs ?
thank you for your reply. Because tabs take up too much blank space in a Scrivener page.
I have a post somewhere in which I show how to build a list using styles.
I also included the styles. (downloadable)
That was 2 or maybe 3 years ago.
… It allows to set the indents whichever way you want them.
I will look. Thanks very much. Very kind of you.
Found it
Interesting. Could you please elaborate what you mean? Screen shot example? Are you referring to the Tab Bar, Ruler, etc.?
My perspective: Five spaces is five spaces on the screen and five characters in the document. A tab set at 5 spaces in is one character on the screen and one character (plus tab stop setting) in the document. And using tabs give greater flexibility on spacing and layout during compile step since tabs used in editing can be different than on final deliverable.
thanks again very much
