Hello! I am new to Scrivener. I am a lifelong user of Microsoft Word. I love what I see so far, but I am lost on how to get a Word document to open in Scrivener. Also, how do I insert page breaks or do they automatically transfer over with a new document? Just a couple of questions to get me started.
Simplistically, drag and drop the docx file into an empty Scrivener file in the Binder. The use the “split” command to split the big file into appropriate clumps for continuing your writing in Scrivener.
Also, sooner rather than later, go thru the Tutorial available in the Help menu.
Thank you. I have been going through the tutorial, but for some reason, I’ve just not been getting it. I’ll go through it again. Thanks again! Have a great day!
File > Import > Import and Split is the way to Import Word documents into Scrivener.
If you’ve heading levels in your heading’s Style Paragraphs, you can Import nested folders.
If not, add a disposable Marker to your headings, and Split the Word document on that Marker.
That sounds like something I can handle. I’m replying from my phone, but I’ll give that a shot and see if I can get it to work when I log back on my laptop. Thank you so much!!!
And a jolly welcome to the Scrivener forums, WNCJPM.
I am having the same issue; tell me what you did and how it worked?
Thank you
What specifically did you do? What specifically happened after you did it? Any error messages? how could you tell it did not work, e.g. what did you see in Scrivener?
Thank you for the wonderful welcome. I’m excited to be here!
So, what is your exact question?
In addition to the clarifications requested, I would also advise clicking the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner of the forum page, and searching using a few words that relate more specifically to your query (or you could just browse the importing tag itself).
I finally had a chance to try this. As you can probably guess, it worked perfectly. Thank you!!!
