How to permanently add icon from image (across all projects)

Using number icons for my chapters. Is there a way to add icons from images to Scrivener permanently in all projects? Currently, I add them manually across projects.

Thank you!

Icons are per project but you can add multiple ones at once if open the icon manager window. Add a group of icons you like into one folder then hit Ctrl +a and move all at once.

Yes, there is a way, but only for new Projects – you have to do it manually for existing projects.

Basically, you’re going to set up a new Project Template with the icons already attached.

It’s probably simpler to start from a current project which already has the icons.

  1. Duplicate the project (File > Save As). Doesn’t matter what you call the copy as it’s only a temporary file.
  2. Making sure you’re in the new duplicate, delete all the binder elements you won’t need in a new project – i.e. you probably won’t want to keep scenes for the new project, but you may want to keep existing Document Templates and so on.
  3. Right click on a document and Change icon > Manage icons to see that all your icons are still there – they should be. Add any that are missing.
  4. File > Save As Template and give the new template a meaningful name - ‘Novel with Icons’ perhaps?

Now, when you go to File > New Project you should find your ‘Novel with Icons’ in the list of templates. Create a new project with that template then Documents > Change Icons to check the icons are still there in the list.

I’ve just tested this process on a Mac and it works smoothly – I don’t know of any reason why it wouldn’t work on Windows.

HTH.

It worked, thank you! By the way, if anybody working for Scrivener sees this, for some reason you can’t click ctrl to select multiple images when adding the icons.
