How to search for and replace carriage returns

Until discovering Scrivener about a month ago I was using a combination of Word and Evernote to store and organize the various parts of my manuscript - needless to say it was a mess but the best I could come up with prior to Scrivener. I’ve now ported all of the documents and notes into Scrivener and for the first time can actually see my whole project. However, many of my notes in Evernote used two carriage returns because Evernote does not allow you to set paragraph spacing. In Word my paragraphs were set to have a one-line space between them, so they had one carriage return. So I now have an amalgam of documents that have single carriage returns and double carriage returns. I’ve set paragraph spacing in Scrivener to have a 12 point space before each paragraph and would like to get rid of the double carriage returns. Is there any way to search and replace, or at least search, for two carriage returns in the Windows version?

I’m afraid not at the moment, though being able to search and replace non-printing characters like this is something we would like to add. Probably your best bet now, if you want to fix it up in the editor, is to do a quick trip to Word and strip the extra carriage returns there, then paste back into Scrivener. You can use the Documents > Snapshot feature before you do it to retain a copy of the original in case you find any problems with formatting from the back and forth, but for most things this should work fine.

That will work. Thank you!
