It’s the Mac line endings in text files that steams the subs up. They get a file that contains one unbroken sentence. You need to convert the line endings to CR/LF, which all manner of software does, but not in one seamless movement. But Dave, further down this thread, has posted a solution.

That’s exactly what I’ve been after (other than a Windows-friendly Scriv. export
). Thank you!! I’ve long been a fan of TW, but hadn’t considered using it like this. I appreciate the helping hand.
That might be the end of Mellel for me, after well over 1000 documents written with it since 2003 …

I should add that I don’t expect Scrivener to ever become an information store along the lines of Devonthink. That is way beyond its brief.
However, it would be excellent if Keith could someday consider a way of storing URLs with web and mail clippings. Some stories don’t need much reference - an email briefing here, a bio and address clipped from the web there - and to have a quick route back to the original would enhance the value of each Scrivener file as a reference file.

Thank you all for your thorough answers. This is definitely the most informative forum I have ever been a part of.
So, I see that there are definitely some ways to use Scrivener even for my shorter daily news writing tasks. They all seem a little forced (e.g. putting the date in the article title to be able to sort by date), but perhaps it is worth it to be able to use such a polished tool for all my writing.
Still, I am left wondering if a combination of Journler for my shorter writing and Scrivener for my longer features and columns wouldn’t be a better way to go.
