I don’t want blank lines

I’m writing a novel and am breaking it into scenes. However when I compile I’m left with an extra line between each scene. In the screenshot I’ve got the most relevant bit from the manual where it covers separators and the bit from the settings pane, but I can’t work out how to set a custom separator on compile and get it to put it/them in. Am I seeing things that aren’t there?

I’d really appreciate any help to get this right.

I can’t be 100% sure, but I think you’re in the wrong place.

Right at the bottom of the File menu, you should find something called Compile …

Click that to get to the Compilation page.

Now right-click on the format that’s selected and select Edit format …

Now you’re on the Edit format screen:

I think that may be the Separators you’re looking for.
