Yesterday, I was using import and split.
Worked seamlessly.
Today Scrivner keeps throwing an unknown error message.
I checked its the updated version.
Any idea what happened and how to fix it?

Unfortunately the description of the problem is too vague to provide any advice. We have no way of knowing the error message (or is that all it said, “Unknown error”?), nor what kind of file type you are importing, and how it is arranged internally—whether the conditions for splitting exist, etc. Definitely turn on logging when you run into errors, in the General: Warnings options tab.
You could surely try something simple though and see if that works, like a .txt file made in Notepad that looks like this:
Line one.
---
Line two.
Which is import and split with ---
as the marker.
Thank you for your prompt reply. The error message was exactly that “unknown error”. I was importing the same Word doc file that I imported without issue yesterday. I shut everything down and restored my machine.
Now when I import that same doc the error is “could not parse”.
The doc has not changed.
Thank you in for your help, this is becoming very frustrating.
I tried your .txt suggestion. It asks to select encoding. I go with recommended which is UTF-8 I hut OK, nothing happens.
Here’s the details of the error message:
Odd, I just completely shut down my machine and did a registry clean up. THat seems to have solved the problem.
Interesting, I wonder if it was a anti-virus issue of some sort. That can sometimes inhibit loading files. That’s one reason for checking TXT since it’s kind of hard to hide a virus in a text file, but rather easy in a DOC/X file.
Well, glad it’s working now!
