Importing a project into a fresh project

I use Scrivener 3 on a Mac. I’ve made a mess of project I’m been trying to compile. I want to try again and import my nove project into a fresh project for Parts. When I tried to do this, I found my novel project at the bottom of the Binder. Is this correct? But all the other items of the fresh project are still on top. Do I need to detle anything? Or if I move the novel project up to the top, just where should I llocate it? And is there anything elese I should or shoud not do?

Yes.

If you want. It’s up to you. – But no. Not really.

Your compilable files belong in the new “Draft/Manuscript” folder.

Don’t be too quick to completely delete documents. Wait a while before emptying the trash folder.

  • By “fresh project for Parts” do you mean you want to bring your WIP into a clean “Novel with Parts” Template?

  • It sounds like your “novel with parts” is not compiling as you expect. This may be because of your binder structure and/or custom styles and/or assigned section types.

I see you are on a Mac, and have been using Scrivener for a very long time.

  • What version of Scrivener are you using? I ask because of the overhaul of the compile interface ( I totally understand how it takes some getting used to.)

Depending upon what is “a mess” - is import the best option? Wouldn’t you just be importing “the mess” into a new project?

I think a little more detail of what you are trying to fix might be helpful.

  • Is it just the compile settings that are “a mess”? How so?

If it is you entire manuscript, it should be the first item indented under"Draft (or manuscript), and after front matter if you use that. Just select the folder and drag it up making sure it is indented one level and not even with the draft. You can check its placement by collapsing the draft. If your manuscript is still visible, it is not inside the draft folder. To answer your other question… If you “drop” it on the draft/manuscript folder, the default action will place it at the end of any other items in the folder/document.)

Thank you for the replies. I will start a fresh thread oulining the problems I’m having in Compiling.
