Importing text from various sources?

Hello everybody,

I’ve recently bought the new 2.0 Scrivener (pretty amazing for what I need it for!), but I just had a query about importing text that maybe somebody may be able to answer. In Scrivener, is it possible to import text, either through using the import option and selecting a word document, or simply copying/pasting text from a website etc and getting the editor page to default this text??

I’ve had a look in preferences and there is an option, but it doesn’t seem work. Every time I import text, or copy something I have to select the text and manually change the font. Also when a body of text is selected which is of more than one font, the font bar doesn’t change!

Any suggestions guys?

Thanks!

If I understand you correctly what you need is Documents > Convert > Formatting to Default Text Style.

Hi Hugh,

Yes that works perfectly, not sure how I managed to miss that option.

I was however, wondering if it was possible for Scrivener to automatically do this when text is pasted into the editor, rather than manually converting it?

Maybe something for future releases, something like Words ‘Match destination forming’ icon that appears once text is pasted…

Thanks

You want “Paste and Match Style”, under the Edit menu. There is a keyboard shortcut to make it more efficient than going through the menu, but I don’t know what it is, since I customized it to be less torturous on my aging fingers.

Edit:Paste and Match Style will do what you want, if I understand you correctly. Keyboard shortcut: Shift+Alt+Cmd-V. I use it all the time for pasting differently formated text into Scrivener.

Joachim

Edit: Oops, I didn’t see the previous post. Anyway, confirmation is good…
