In general the inspector is well integrated with the document. It is especially nice that selecting an anchor in the document highlights the related footnote and vice-versa. But it could be better:
When returning to a document, the last position of the document is retained - great! But the inspector returns to the top rather than retaining its last position - not so great.
The highlighting of footnote and anchor only works if both are visible. That is, the document and inspector are not scrolled to achieve the highlighting. Not so great, particularly with a long document and long list of footnotes.
Actually, I just tried this again and found that scrolling does occur sometimes, but not always. I played around a little and could not determine why it worked when it did work. So I’m not sure what you should do with this point–except maybe to test it thoroughly again at some time and determine that it is working the way you expect.
Hi! I don’t know if you are aware of the following feature (I discovered it recently), but it is possible to access comments and footnotes without the Inspector being displayed, which saves you the time it takes to appear in long documents.
If in the options > edit > footnotes and comments, you uncheck the option to ‘open comments in Inspector if possible’, now the comments and footnotes will open in a small window right next to the text in the editor.
I don’t know if it will solve any of the problem you’re having, but it might be worth a try!
Regards
I tried the option and like the results! With this option, I can view and edit the footnote in place. In fact, I don’t need the inspector. Many thanks!
It does have the disadvantage that any action outside the popup (e.g. changing the font) closes the popup. You have to resort to using the context menu for formatting.
