Indenting long quotes?

Totally new to Scrivener (owned it for a while, but finally using it) and I’m enjoying the “index card” approach to writing. On the other hand, I think I’m expecting everything to work like it does in Word and forgetting this is more of a raw text editor. That being said, I can’t seem to figure out how to…

Indent on both sides large blocks of quoted text. I can manually indent each line and then move the right margin in, but after hitting enter, I start a new paragraph and have to move the left margin marker to “0” which then causes all future paragraphs not to indent. Something about that process makes me think I’m not doing something right (it’s too “manual” in an age of “automatic” formatting on computers). Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Hi,

You just need to create an indented block style. Show the ruler (cmd-R), set up the paragraph indents as you want them (first line indent, head indent, tail indent - the black markers either end of the ruler) and then go to the Styles pop-up button and select “Other…”. Click on “Add to Favorites”, give it a name (e.g. “Indented quote”) and make sure you check “Include ruler as part of style”. Then, whenever you want to indent some text, you just select that style from the Styles menu.

All the best,
Keith

Perfect! Thanks
