An inserted image in a document disappears after reopening Scrivener. This happens regardless of whether it is inserted as a link and regardless of the image type. This happens even if the image lives directly in the binder. Is this a bug? Thanks.
That certainly does not describe how it should work, so I’d say from the description it is a bug. I’d test to see whether it happens to all images or just this one, and whether it happens to images of a different format. It could very well be there isn’t a bug, and it’s just a problem with the image itself and it needs to be repaired or re-saved in a different format.
This was happening to all images regardless of the format. But, I figured that this problem might go away if I reinstalled Scrivener and it did! Thanks.
Interesting! Well, glad it was just a gremlin.
this is happening to me and I have reinstalled. I find none of my images are reliable - which is a huge problem.
With me they disappear not only between sessions but if I split a document with images in it.
Weird. Wild guess: try temporarily turning off your anti-Virus, or “white list” Scrivener (if possible). Something on your Windows computer is interfering with normal operation of Scrivener. If not that, what else might you have running that might do this?
Could you provide a sample project, an image, and complete instructions on where to place that image, and how, in a .zip file for us to look at?
I just updated recently to Scrivener 3, using Windows 10, and I’m having the same problem. Images just disappear from documents when I close the project. It doesn’t matter how I insert the image into the text I’m writing. When I open the project again, the image is gone without a trace. I’ve lost hours of work because I assumed Scrivener was saving what I wrote and the images I inserted. Is there a fix for this bug?
I checked Scrivener 1.9, which I used until the past few weeks. Images do not disappear from Scriverner 1.9. Can I convert the new Scrivener 3 files to the Scrivener 1 format so I can continue to work with images within Scrivener?

Yes, you will find a command to “downgrade” the project in the Edit ▸ Export
submenu.
I don’t know!! nothing too weird. What kind of program might cause a problem, any ideas? (still having the problem, and it’s really frustrating!
Yes have sent it to you a couple of months back but no reply yet. I know you folks are busy but would be great to get this resolved. Personally I cannot bear to go back to Scriv 1 at this point. I’ve just got to understand 3 much better! I have whitelisted Scrivener in anti virus.
Sorry about that, it looks there may have been a lost email. I’ve checked the support queue and don’t see anything from you, at least from the email address you use here in the forum. Maybe try sending them to me via a personal message here instead.
Having the same problem. Newly inserted images do not appear in editor though they are present in the .rtf file.
The problem only surfaced recently - images I inserted previously display okay.
We discovered that resetting the application Options to factory default worked to clear the problem. I was unable to reproduce this issue even with the same project and images, and I could see all of the images that they could not themselves see when I opened the project. Only after I applied their settings, as a saved .prefs file, and reloaded the project, could I see the problem.
So somewhere there is a setting (or possibly a combination of settings) that causes this, and that data has been forwarded to the developer to take a look at.
Thanks Amber for getting this resolved for me, even though it remains mysterious what caused it.
Sure thing! As an update to this issue in general, we’ve isolated what was causing it, and it should be fixed in the next update.
