Invalid Serial Number on Scrivener 2.9

Hello,

I downloaded Scrivener trial version (2.9). I used it for a month and then I made the purchase. I received the Order Confirmation email. My serial number begins with SCRIV3MAC. However, when I try to register, I keep receiving error messages. It says that either my user name or my serial number is invalid.

I have sent emails about this problem but received no response. I would appreciate any help you might offer.

Best.

You have v. 2.9 and the licence is for v. 3…

When did you download the trial version? I would guess it was before v. 3 came out on 20/11/2017. You have three options:

  1. If you want to, or for reasons of hardware and OS limitations have to stick with v. 2.9, go to literatureandlatte.com/legacy-download, and replace your existing copy with the new download—shortly after v. 3 was released, an slight update to 2.9 was made available which will accept v.3 serial numbers so that those of us who for whatever reason have to run both versions don’t continually have to validate our purchases;

  2. On the other hand, as you have a licence for v. 3, you can simply download that and install it instead of v. 2.9, but make sure you go to Updating from Scrivener 2 to Scrivener 3: A Guide and download the guide to help you familiarise yourself with the changes.

  3. Combine options 1 and 2 and run both if necessary.

The upgrade to v. 3 is definitely worth it if your computer can run MacOS 10.12 or 10.13. It won’t run on any earlier versions of MacOS

Hope that helps.

Hello Mark,

Thank you for your reply. The problem is, I downloaded the trial version in 1/28/2018, not before 20/11/2017 as you assumed. So I think my scrivener 2.9 is the updated version already.

I cannot run 3, because my OS is 10.11. So installing it is not an option.

Do you think there is anything else I can do?

Thank you.

Hello again,

Just to make sure that I do have the updated version of 2.9, I uninstalled my current version and downloaded the one you mentioned (which is supposed to work with my serial number).

It still does not work. I have the newest version of 2.9, which I downloaded again today, and it tells me that my serial number is invalid.

I cannot upgrade my macOS to 10.12. So running Scrivener 3 is not an option.

Please, help me what to do. Am I supposed to ask for a refund?

Make sure that you’ve correctly entered the serial number, including all dashes, and with no leading or trailing spaces.

When did you email the support address? We’re behind, but not horribly so.

Katherine

Dear Katherine,

Believe me, I enter the serial correctly. I copy and paste it, to make sure that I’m not making any mistake. You might find this hard to believe, but let me repeat myself:

I downloaded Scrivener in Jan 2018 (which means I downloaded the legacy version which is supposed to work with my number).
I made the purchase. I received the confirmation email.
I enter the serial number by copying and pasting it.
I tried deleting and re-installing Scrivener.
Nothing works.

I sent my first email on Friday, if I am correct. I

I’ve responded to your support query.

Katherine

Thank you Katherine. I emailed you back.

Dear Katherine,

David from your team responded. Ho told me that I should download Scrivener from this link:http://www.literatureandlatte.com/legacy-download

Katherine, THIS IS WHAT I ALREADY DID. Twice. I swear. It is not working.

Is this a joke? I am so disappointed in the answer I received. Please, either find another solution or refund me. It has ben days and hours and I have nothing else left to say at this point.

Please see my response in our support thread.

David and I are approximately 10 time zones apart, so it can be hard to coordinate sometimes. I’m sorry for the confusion.
