anyone else experiencing an issue where you click on the pencil icon, you’re briefly shown the insert options (of which one you can add timestamp) for the insert options to disappear and you’re left with just the keyboard and none of the pencil icons in the bar above? I just updated my iOS to 26.2
As of March 3rd, 2026 this is still an issue. I tried the long press feature to select what tools to have above the keyboard on my iPhone but when selecting the brush icon, I’m shown the editor for a brief second before it disappears and is replaced by my keyboard with no icons in the tool bar area. If you try to long press this area, nothing happens.
For reference, I’m on an iPhone 17 Pro Max, my iOS 26 is current. This problem does not happen on my iPad mini but it is running iOS 18. I’ve been fearful of upgrading because I don’t want to lose editing features.
If I can add a short video or submit a video of what is happening, I can do that to better help with solving the problem.
As our Head of Support, AmberV, noted in December 2025:
To make that change, you’ll open the iOS device’s Settings app and the tap on the Apps group. Here, you’ll scroll to the Scrivener app’s settings.
In the Scrivener settings, you’ll select Editor and then toggle on “3rd Party Keyboard Support”. That could correct this issue.
I am using Scrivener for iOS on iOS 26.3.
When I tap the Format button in the keyboard row to change the text format, the Format settings window appears briefly and then immediately disappears, returning to the keyboard screen. This makes it impossible to change the text formatting.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
Yes I am experiencing the same issue on iPhone 15 with iOS 26.3, and either the default apple keyboard enabled, or using google keyboard (gboard).
However, the suggestion to enable 3rd party keyboard support within Scrivener’s Editor settings section, as reported by Amber works for me.
I did as you suggested and it works well. Thanks!
