Attempting to insert date and time in my running journal has failed: pressing the ‘pencil’ button, or any button in the keyboard toolbar, launches the menu briefly that then disappears completely, replaced by a white line where the options panel might have been, and a keyboard below that with a blank toolbar above it; iPhone 16, first occurrence, after switching to iOS 26; going to delete and reload the app, will report back…
Nope: deleted, redownloaded, reopened document, issue still unresolved; please advise:eye:![]()

Same in dark or light mode; doesn’t affect keyboard or toolbar buttons — only buttons that launch a menu from the top of the keyboard: menu briefly appears, then disappears, replaced by a line above a keyboard w/ a blank toolbar;
Please advise
I’m having the same issue with iOS 26. Scrivener version 1.2.4 (3405). Insert, Formatting Options, Alignment buttons — all show the relevant menu for a fraction of a second, then menu disappears and there’s only a blank space with a line above it.
Thanks for the report. We were alerted to this just the other day, and have it written up to get fixed.
Meanwhile I would try long-tapping on any button you don’t need, and adding the formatting button you want to add directly, and see if that works better.
1.2.4: twins! 30 characters, ubi nunc sunt, mono no aware, kintsugi, ad hoc de rerum ex machina ibidem
Please expand on your suggestion – I have no idea what you’re talking about. Thank you.
A “long tap” is the act of taking your finger and pressing it against the screen of your telephone for a measure of time, around one to one and half seconds, to enact an alternative behaviour for the graphical depiction of an object that you are pressing your finger against—in this case, one of the toolbar buttons, as suggested.
Same issue trying to change style.
Is this happening from within the Formatting overlay, where you scroll down a bit to the list of styles in the project, and tap on one, or is it the act of bringing up the overlay in general?
Hey Amber, thank you for describing the process of long-tap; given that simply pressing a function button in the keyboard toolbar doesn’t lead to failure, you have successfully resolved my issue; when I asked you to expand I meant that I was unaware that the toolbar is customizable or of how that is achieved; that’s also to say that it doesn’t occur within the overlay, but in the process of launching the overlay itself: a failure to launch so to speak.
Okay! Glad to hear that the function itself, to add the time and date, works fine when added as a button. That may even be more useful to you in general, than as simply a workaround.
So you see this problem the other person brought up, with the Formatting “brush” icon as well, leading to a single line drawn across the screen? I guess the two might be using the same mechanism even though they look very different (one a menu, the other a thing covering the keyboard).
Unfortunately I cannot reproduce any of this on an iPad running 26, even if I shrink Scrivener all the way down to its narrowest size (which makes it conform to the iPhone layout). So it must be a difference in the forked OS versions themselves rather than the UI itself.
Confirmed, same issue with Formatting Brush icon; and the color palette Marker icon, and the Paragraph format icon; seems to be an issue w/ pop up menus relative to keyboard; the fix is in until y’all re-rig the thing tho; thanks again
Thank you. I have amended the ticket accordingly.
I am having the same issues on iOS 26 (iPhone). Cannot use styles system or other tools, as described above. The menus pop up for a very brief second, then the keyboard glitches and goes back to the regular iOS keyboard (having lost Scrivener’s top row).
I have heard multiple reports state that if you enable 3rd party keyboard support, in Scrivener’s Editor settings section, that it can suppress the bug. I don’t know to what extent, but I do know you don’t even need such a keyboard installed.
Thanks for this tip. I tested it out quickly, and it did fix the visual glitch. I will do some writing tomorrow and see if functionality works correctly.
Is L&L working on an app update bug fix?
is there any iOS Scrivener upgrade?
Is L&L even maintaining the iOS Scrivener app anymore? It’s been busted since before September. this bug makes the editor unusable and extremely frustrating.
Are you saying the setting adjustment does not fix the problem for you? We will be looking into fixing this, but from what I understand it should be made usable for now.
