Hi all. I’m considering moving from an ipad 10.5 inch to an ipad mini for even more portability as i travel a fair bit.
Does side by side still work in landscape mode on the ipad mini?
Would i still be able to work on two files at once?
What’s anyone’s experience with the mini and both writing and editing?
My main work is done on a 13 inch macbook, so this is an adjunct.
Thank you so much!
I recently upsized from a mini to an ipad air because I wanted more of a laptop replacement, but the mini served me amazingly well for years. (My main computer is a desktop Mac Studio.)
I would definitely recommend an external keyboard with the mini, as otherwise the on-screen keyboard obliterates half the screen.
Curious if you can recommend a keyboard for the latest iPad mini–I’m considering getting one so I can keep writing during a long upcoming trip. While I do have a Macbook Air, even the smallest/lightest Mac doesn’t really fit well into the bag I’ll have with me daily. Thanks!
I like the Microsoft folding keyboard which I always carry on travels and sometimes use with my iPhone. Have had it for years. I assume still available.
I use the Microsoft universal folding keyboard as well, and it’s one of the best portable keyboards I’ve owned. I do think they still make it, at least it is listed on Microsoft’s Amazon page.
I recall it taking a little while to get used to the button placements, but it’s not too bad. Anyone that has used a split ergonomic keyboard will probably adapt quicker, as the main point of adjustment is the gap down the middle where it folds (and for me, my “bad” habit of typing B with the right hand).
It folds down as tall as a normal iPhone, and is only a bit wider, so they both fit in most of the same places together. You’ll want a case that can form a stand though, as the keyboard has nothing that could be used for that.
My equipment consists of an iPad mini and a MacBook Air. I used to use an iPad Pro solely, but found I missed the ease of typing, editing, etc., on the Mac even though I paired the iPad Pro with a top line keyboard. Plus, the large form factor became tedious, and heavy, when consuming content, especially ebooks. My current setup works great. I write quite a bit of my short stories on the mini sans keyboard, use the Mac for longer, more involved work, and constantly use the mini for reading, research, proofing, etc. YMMV.
