Suddenly, when I italicize a word, Scrivener won’t display the italics. Any ideas?

Does the font you’re using in the document have an italics variant? If you’re using something like Lucida Grande that doesn’t have an actual italic version, you won’t be able to produce italicized text. Select some of the text and check the font name in the format bar, then open the font palette (Format>Font>Show Fonts) and look up the name to see if “Italic” or similar is listed in the typeface column.
That fixed it. The problem arose when I recently changed fonts, but I didn’t make the connection. Sorry if that was a dumb question, but I assumed all fonts had an italic version. Thanks!!!
