Java for macOS Scrivener

Do I need to add Java for iOS m4 64 chip to fully use the Scrivener Compiler? Compiler says better file conversion if Java is installed.

Are you using the iOS on an M4 Mac via the iPhone Mirroring system?

Or are you using iOS Scrivener on an iPhone or iPad natively?

Sorry, it is macOS with Scrivener for Mac. Im new to the Apple world.

Don’t bother with Java. That has been there for ever as better than the Apple native RTF to DOC(X) converter. But KB wrote his own DOCX converter, which Scrivener now uses, so you don’t need to install Java.

The best RTF to DOCX converter is still Word, which reads RTF perfectly (RTF was developed by Microsoft!) so if you compile to RTF and open that in Word, you can save to DOCX from there. But it’s up to you—I got all the people I worked with to be happy receiving RTF files, but there are those who insist on having DOCX.

If you want to create ODT files, or have some you’d like to import, then you will definitely want to install Java. The macOS converter is pretty bad.

Thanks the explanation. I am trying to get Compile to include the embedded images. I now find saving to .rtfd works!
