Jumpy posting-date slider is a nag for the eye

That jumpy posting date slider gizmo on the right of every thread is quite a nag to the eye. Is there some essential functionality it offers that makes it worth having there I wonder, or might it be better shut off? Just a thought.

Otherwise I am counting myself as acclimating well to the new digs.

p.s. The “your topic is similar to” panel is hilarious.

It could certainly be hidden via CSS I think (and so Stylus may come to the rescue on a personal basis, if you use that), but I do find myself using it often enough, especially in long threads, to merit the period of acclimation I found myself going through with it (though for me, since I’ve been using Discourse boards for years now, that is ancient Internet history). I will say overall it’s so much nicer not having to work with 35 page topics, for those larger ones.

p.s. The “your topic is similar to” panel is hilarious.

I’ve been getting a kick out of that as well. I would have figured that 15 years of raw data would be enough to train the heck out of even the worst fuzzy matching bot—but maybe it’s only building the more complex associations with what we’re adding on to the forum now, as opposed to using anything that existed before.

Hiding via CSS seems right. I use Safari’s built-in custom global CSS facility for this. Done and done.
