Keyboard shortcuts for screenplay formatting

I came across these instructions on Gwen Hernandez’s website:

Notice that each element has a letter next to it. When you call up the elements menu, either by clicking it or using Shift+Command+Y (Ctrl+ \ in Windows), you can then press the associated letter on the keyboard to select the desired element.

So if you wanted to switch to Dialogue, you would call up the menu, then press D to switch to dialogue mode.

Using the Function Key (Mac Only)

Once you have the element letters memorized (or you might want to print or write out a list), you can press the Function key and the letter at the same time to change to that script element, without having to call up the menu first.

I’m using a macbook with a touchpad. When I press the function key and a letter such as A for Action, nothing happens. Please help? Thanks.

Is the document in Script mode?

Yes it is in script mode.

It looks like her site needs to be updated. The shortcuts in Scrivener 3 are Opt-Cmd-1,2,3, etc. See Section 19.1.1 in the manual.
