Keystroke Menu Choice Equivalence

At File > Exit, that sub-menu item is tagged “Alt+F4”.
However, Alt F > X results in a different action from Scrivener v3 than Alt+F4 does.
F > X closes Scrivener (in my case after backing up the project);
Alt+F4 closes the project but leaves Scrivener running, showing the Project Templates window. (This is kin but not twin to an Apr 2011 item – Menu: "Close - Project" close Scrivener)

(I’m working with only one project.)

(Scrivener: v3.1.5.1 (Win11 x64 upd’d; i7, 32GB 2T SSS (loath to say ‘drive’).)

Yes, this misapplication of the shortcut was fixed in an update, so that Alt+F4—the standard Windows shortcut for closing the current window—is assigned by default to the Close Project command; Exit now uses Ctrl+Alt+F4 (though both can be changed in the Options).

You can update your shortcuts to the new defaults by opening File > Options, and in the Keyboard tab, clicking Reset All. Or, if you don’t want to lose your own customised shortcuts, you can manually change just the shortcuts for Close Project and for Exit.
