KindleGen cover image

Hi. I can import an image into Scriv with no problem, then add the image as the cover in compile settings, then compile to .mobi, but when I add the mobi to my kindle to test, i don’t see the cover image displayed on my kindle screen.

Have you tried opening the .mobi in a Kindle reading app on your PC, rather than a Kindle device? Same error?

What do you see instead of the cover image?

I just see the generic kindle no-cover. The point is I’m compiling a short story I’m not going to upload to a retailer, I’m going to give out for readers to side-load on their kindles, but I still want them to see the cover. I’ve seen it done before, but adding the cover file inside scrivener doesn’t seem to actually embed it into the file

In the Compile settings, Scrivener identifies the cover image and shows that it has selected it?

This is from the Mac version. Similar in Windows?

yep

it’s all working from the Scrivener side so I don’t know what the deal is.

I found a workaround, though:
Send the mobi file to calibre. Add the image into the metadata in calibre. convert mobi–>mobi in calibre, then the image is actually embedded and shows up on Kindle

Could be a caching issue on the ereader; that happens a lot, when you replace a file with a newer version but it’s still caching the older cover.
