Lack of letter and punctuation in my document on the iPad

Hello. When I open a text in the Scrivener on my iPad, I miss letters and punctuation. If I check my document on the Scrivener of my pc, everything is good. What should I do to correct this? I specify that I have synchronized the right text several times and that it has not changed anything.

My guess would be a font issue.

Is the exact version of the font you use on your PC also installed on the iPad?

Can you give examples of what is missing? What punctuation, just random letters or specific ones?

Yes, I do have that font. (Well, I think I do. I donā€™t know where I can check to make sure.) Itā€™s only a few letters in the text, and it seems completely random, whether itā€™s letters or punctuation. However, from what Iā€™ve noticed, itā€™s a letter at the beginning of a word, not in the middle. Commas are affected the most, but it doesnā€™t happen every time.

Does it happen if you type the same text with the missing characters into a new empty section, to test? Just make a new section, and retype (rather than copy and paste) enough of the text around the problem, sync, and see if it fails in the same exact way.

I just tried it, and the missing letter is indeed present in the new text.

Okay, could you send us a small sample project containing the result of this glitch? I would do it this way:

  1. On your PC, create a new project using the ā€œBlankā€ starter.
  2. Since we know it isnā€™t a very specific formatting glitch from the retyping test, it is safe to copy and paste your test line that you retyped into the blank project.
  3. Give that one a quick sync to ensure the problem is still present.
  4. If it is, then from the PC, use File ā–ø Back Up ā–ø Back Up To... and create a zipped copy.

Sorry for the late reply. Here is my test. It is the ā€œQā€ that is missing from the word ā€œquandā€ in the second sentence.

Just to remind you, this issue only occurs in the iOS app and not on the PC.

Thank you very much! That helps a lot, I can see the problem easily in the iOS versionā€”and interestingly enough, in the Mac version as well. From what I can see, it appears to be an issue with the special kind of space you are using before the word ā€˜quandā€™.

If you select the space before and search for it in Character Map, you should find it is u+2006 (also known by 8198), or what is referred to as ā€œSix-Per-Em Spaceā€, or sometimes also called the ā€œthin spaceā€. If I select that space and hit the spacebar to insert a normal one, then the text immediately works properly in iOS and Mac.

Iā€™ll write this up as something to investigate, but I donā€™t have high hopes in us being able to fix it. Something as ā€œlow levelā€ as how spaces work is very deep into Appleā€™s code.
