This worked for me. Hopefully this won’t be a regular problem.
Same problem here on Win10. I’m inclined to wait and see if we have a solution, seeing that everything I need is working just fine on the initial release. k * P.S. No problem with the update in Wine on Linux, BTW.
Download the full 3.0.1 installer, from the L&L website, and run it.
It will simply install over 3.0.0. Seems to work fine.
YMMV, but I didn’t bother uninstalling 3.0.0.
Surprised to see this is such an old issue now. But at least we’ve got a v.3.x.
Hi I seem to be having the same issue on the latest release even through this thread is super old. v 3.1.2.0
Can anyone help?
Hi.
You are not the only one.
So far, the best answer seems to be:
Close Scrivener, download and install from the website instead of using Check for updates
.
(If this is what you were doing, of course…)
It is all the way at the bottom.
Thanks Vincent I was able to uninstall and reinstall successfully.
I don’t think it was necessary to uninstall first. You could have just installed over the previous version.
Hopefully, it didn’t reset your preferences. (?)
Can update either and have the same message when installing the new EXE…
Hi Gabr1el
Have you tried installing from a download rather than using Check for updates
?
If not, look 4 posts up.
I’m running under Crossover on linux but recieved the same error message. It always worked perfectly before. I’m running the 32-bit version.
In my case maybe the update program defaults to the 64-bit version then fails because the two version install in different locations.
Just a thought.
The error indicates that either the registry or the installation path has been changed since Scrivener was installed, so that the path is not listed or correct. Running the full installer will allow you to select the location to install and will update the registry with the new installation information. That can be downloaded for either architecture from the downloads page here.
I had the same error. Running Scrivener as Administrator then using “check for updates” to initiate the download and install worked for me. I’m not 100% sure but I think I had to do that with the last update before this one as well, because of the same problem. Hope this helps. Happy writing.
Not sure quite what’s going on but when trying to update to the latest version it gets all the way to ready to install and then gives me a dialog box with the following message:
“There has been an error. Error trying to install file destination $(installdir) resolved to an empty file. The application will exit now.”
If you’re encountering this error while updating from within Scrivener -
Instead, try downloading the installer and updating from there. This approach will frequently solve the problem.
Best,
Jim
Worked like a charm! Thanks!
