oh - boards aren’t letting me edit that old post. In any case, it does look like Verdana is “sticking.” It would seem that Segoe UI perhaps isn’t recognised as a valid / system font and so is getting dropped / reverting back to Arial.
I know Scrivener has a local copy of SegoeUI, but I’m not sure how it uses it.
That particular file may be corrupted in some way. On my box, the size of siguiemj.ttf in C:/Program Files/Scrivener3/fonts is 1,785,076 bytes. I’m not sure if that’s the file being used for Segoe UI, though.
Couple of ideas to try:
- reinstall the Segoe UI font in Windows (it should be available from Microsoft somewhere on their site)
- delete and reinstall Scrivener (good idea anyway, since the new Beta just came out) (I’d try this first, honestly)
- Find a copycat font of SegoeUI and use it instead. I don’t know of one offhand.
This issue persists in v13. Note that it was not present in v11 or earlier, but appeared on both my PCs as soon as I installed v12 on them.
Scrivener has been uninstalled, then re-installed with no effect.
Segoe UI seems to work fine in all applications (including Scrivener), but Scrivener seems to “forget” that this font is set specifically for a document and/or as the default for editing.

So, I just reset “No Style” to Use Segoe UI, and restarted Scrivener. It now sets that style to Arial. This is a fresh install of Beta 13, NOT using the updater.
I don’t use Segoe UI; I use instead the “DejaVu” fonts. If I need some font that looks like SegoeUI, DejaVu Sans Condensed comes pretty close.
That said, this bug needs to be addressed; the “No Style” font should not be overridden by some random whim of the program.

Thanks for those suggestions! If I continue to have problems with font defaults / settings I will certainly try these. I’m not dead set upon Segoe UI however (it’s more that I can’t bear Arial!) – so I am content for now (as a user) to just pick something else that seems to work and stick with it.
Bug-wise however, if (as RWFranz is saying below) the bug is still outstanding, then obviously that will need to still be looked into.
Just wanted to mention that I am now also experiencing this bug after I wanted to switch from Times New Roman to Segoe UI Semilight.
After closing and re-opening the project all text in Segoe UI Semilight has been changed to Ariel.
I will switch to another font in the meantime until this is fixed.
Any update on this? I see it hasn’t been assigned an issue number.

Any project of mine that uses default styling is now showing Calibri instead of Arial, but the problem does persist, just with a different font.
Thanks all. This has been filed.
