I just noticed this today: When I cut something using Ctrl-X, there’s a delay of almost two seconds before the selection disappears. I think I would have noticed this if it happened in the past.
I closed and restarted Scrivener, and it still happens. I opened a small test project and the same thing happens.
Any idea what’s going on?
Thanks,
Al
I’d guess keyboard input buffering; does the same happen if you use the menu to cut something? Maybe try using a different shortcut (Shift+Del should work to cut text as well as Ctrl+X), or do a test with your startup programs etc. turned off to see if you’re still getting the delay.
Yes, same thing from the edit menu.
I don’t see it in any other applications. I turned off my keyboard macro app, and it still happens.
Does anyone else see this?
More information:
I’m pretty sure this is a Scrivener problem, but it only happens if the user has the program running for a long time.
I normally never close Scrivener. My computer sleeps at night and when I’m away from it, but Scrivener is generally always open.
Today, when I selected something and pressed Ctrl-X, Scrivener crashed (right click on the image and choose View Image):

It never came back, so I closed it via that dialog. When I restarted, the problem disappeared. This may be a problem only for those who keep the app open for long periods of time.
Tell the developers there may be a so-called “memory leak” when text is cut. If it happens again, I’ll see if closing and restarting Scriv normally fixes it.
Hope that helps,
Al
Today this started happening again.
I closed Scrivener and restarted: still a problem.
I logged out of Windows and logged back in, started Scrivener: still a problem.
I rebooted windows: still a problem.
I tested other applications: not a problem. Happens only in Scrivener.
I opened a Scrivener test project: still a problem.
I started up Scrivener and opened the tools/Options dialog.
I opened Task Manager and did an End Task for Scrivener.
Scrivener closed.
I restarted Scrivener: Problem solved.
I hope that helps. It’s a real annoying problem, and I’m glad I’ve found a solution for me, although it’s cumbersome.

This is a significant bother. Do you have any idea what causes it? Is there something I can avoid doing?
Thanks,
Al
