Looking for a way to jump to the end of text when pressing down arrow key

Hello! Sorry for the long title, I’m just not sure how to word this issue succinctly. I’ve used quite a few text editors over the last few years, but I’ve come to really rely on Scrivener for note-taking as a digital commonplace journal of sorts.

One small behavior that I’m used to in other programs is this: if I am editing the last line of a page, and my cursor is sitting somewhere in the middle of the text, the cursor would jump to the end of last line when I press the down arrow key. However, in Scrivener, when the cursor is in the middle of the last line and I press the down arrow, it just stays in place in the middle of the line. I would have to either move my hands from typing position to move the cursor, or press and hold the arrow keys to get to the end, which gets distracting when trying to focus on writing.

One work around I’ve found is to manually add a blank line at the end of all my documents, but it is tedious to remember to do this every time and sometimes I end up typing over that blank line, meaning I have to remember to add another. I am constantly jumping around between documents and windows between Word, LibreOffice, Scrivener, emails, ect, so getting the program to behave how the others do would be a big help in day-to-day use.

I DO NOT ever use the Compiling features in Scrivener. I never export anything since I only use it to take notes, so any solution that might pose a problem to that process is fine for me. I am also okay with any technical fix that requires “opening up the hood” of Scrivener (as long as I have clear instructions), I just don’t even know where to start approaching a solution to this.

Other than this one small thing, I’ve been very happy with my Scrivener purchase the last few months! Thanks in advance!

Hi

Ctrl + End
. . . . . . .

or Ctrl + A + left arrow.

If keyboard has an actual end key must click this rather than the left arrow.

(to the top is Ctrl + Home Key)

Line Movement
Ctrl + right/left arrow moves the cursor a whole word at a time through the text.
Ctrl + up/down arrow moves the cursor up or down one paragraph.
Up/down arrow moves the cursor up or down one line.
Right/left arrow moves the cursor right or left one letter at a time. (A bug with the right arrow may occur in certain situations, on the list of future bug fixes.)

And for those reading this who use macOS,

  • Command-DownArrow moves to end of file
  • Command-UpArrow moves to top of file

And there are more such keyboard things documented somewhere, but offhand I do not know where.

Great information! The Ctrl+Fn+End/Left seems to work best with how I type, and I didn’t know about the Ctrl+Direction line movements, either. This is all super helpful, thanks everyone!
