Losing default formatting between syncs

This is somewhat odd.

So, I have default formatting set up on MacOS, iPadOS, and IOS.

They’re all the same: Andika font, 1.5 spacing.

But when I sync between my 3 devices, I occasionally lose all the formatting and it reverts to Helvetica (which I’m assuming is Scrivener’s go to default if it can’t find my defaults).

A tad annoying because I then have to go through each document and apply the default again … which I’ll lose again about a day later.

It’s a bit of a tricky one to pin down because it doesn’t happen on each sync; more like once or twice a day.

Anyone come across anything like this?

What method are you syncing? Perhaps an incomplete sync? Leaving enough time to complete on each device and how do you confirm completion?

I just hit the sync button on the mobile platforms.

On the Mac, I just shut down the app and wait for the Dropbox icon to change back to normal.

Is there a way of manually syncing on the Mac?

You could be right though; maybe I’m not waiting long enough for the sync.

The only setting about sync I’m aware of–others can comment–is in Scrivener → Settings → Sharing button → Sync Tab and see what’s set for “Check for Settings every …”. Mine is set for 5 minutes. Can be as low as 10 seconds, or even “Never”. Might make a difference and avoid having to shutdown.

That being said, yes, my understanding is that Dropbox has to then handle the upload from the local Dropbox folders to its servers and eventual download to synced devices.

This is correct, plus there is some degree of “processing” time on the Dropbox side.

Neither Scrivener nor Dropbox is designed for real time synchronization.

Right, it could be a timing thing then.

Dangit! Now I’ve lost the compile settings!

Okay, let’s reset and try again.

A-ha!

As I suspected, the problem was between the computer and the chair!

When I stopped using Scrivener, I must have removed the DropBox app from my iPhone. It was somehow still managing to sync, but very unreliably.

Put the app back, and aside from me occasionally forgetting to hit the sync button, it’s working properly now — including remembering the default settings,

That’s weird, I thought Scrivener on iOS handles Dropbox directly (via their API) without the need to install the Dropbox App at all. It’s been a while, maybe my memory betrays me…

Not sure. It was definitely behaving oddly; but installing the app cleared it up. I assumed I needed the app there for housekeeping or something. It’s quite an obnoxious piece of software. (Upgrade! Go on! You know you want to!) which is probably why I deleted it in the first place.

This is correct. iOS Scrivener does not need the Dropbox app to synchronize.
