Lost all the project

How many backups do you have? If the latest is corrupted, the second last might not be.
Remember also, where I say YourProjectName, I mean the name you named your project.

You mean I should extract files from Files, Icons, Snapshots, and settings, too? I mean, I could definitely try, but I just wanna chack.

To resurrect a zipped backup, all that is needed is to unzip it. It will be a complete Scrivener project with everything that existed at the moment of the backup. In Win, double click the .scrivx file to open the project.

Tip - When trying to rescue from backups, first drag all the zipped backup files to another folder you make on your hard drive. The reason for this is once you extract the zipped backup and open it, the backup on open or close in Scrivener will overwrite your oldest backup. If you have experienced a gradual issue it’s possible several backups are missing contents and if you’re overwriting backups you may run out of options. Also, I set the number of backups to 25 to ensure I have plenty to play with.

As for sub directories and files within the backup files, DON’T touch anything - a great way to screw up a project. That .scrivx in the extracted backup should be the only thing you touch.

Well, I’ve extracted some of the inner files, such as Files, Icons, and some Settings, but otherwise, I haven’t done anything with them and their original folders are still there.(I unzipped them using an external online unzipper) . As for the scrivx. document, I’ve tried the solution you’ve said above multiple times already, but all that appears is a very old copy of my document. In other words, a very old backup. And I’m wondering where had all the recent backups gone. Basically, that is the core of my problem.
If you can help me with any tips, I’ll be forever grateful!
Thanks in advance

No. Work with the zip.
Extract the Scriv folder. It has everything you mentioned in it.
Don’t touch the content, except to open the SCRIVX file.
Do it away from you normal save location.
That’s a summary of the detail I gave you.

I understand, but all the scrivx. files I’ve extracted were very old backup copies with lots of missing work. I want to regain these missing parts and hours.
Thanks for trying to help me out!

I assume you went to options > backup and opened the backup location. You can obviously order files in that folder by recent. If still old work make sure have chosen backup on close.

The .scriv folder is a complete entity. You should not be attempting to recover your work by poking through .scriv folders manually. If a file is not visible via the Scrivener interface, it is in all likelihood not present in the project, and poking around looking for it will just make a mess.

Unzipping a backup should give you a functional Scrivener project, which is best manipulated by Scrivener itself.

If you need to recover files from multiple backups, open multiple projects and drag and drop as needed.

I’ve been using Scrivener for several years on and off on my tabletop Windows computer without a problem. But this year I bought a new laptop and used Dropbox to synch between the two computers without a problem, until I accidently deleted the main file, in Dropbox.

Panic! I tried through Dropbox’s website to retrieve the file but got nowhere! Then looked for answers on Scrivener’s website and found that backups are made automatically to my hard disk by default. It was so simple to get back on track, file fully retrieved.

This is just to say how thankful I feel towards Scrivener for saving my day. Backups are so important! Accidents can and do happen!
