Hi,
so I recently had to do a complete system reset on a MacBook Air as it was crashing and not running properly. I didn’t think to back up my files because I had assumed (incorrectly) that I could redownload and put in my license key and the files would be back. Is there any way to recover? There’s a project I’ve been working on that was so deep in production and full of information that I really wish I could still reference.
Thanks!
Welcome to the forum.
When you say a complete reset, was it a complete erase of the system and re-install?
if so, and you have no backups, or sync to cloud then any locally stored files, regardless of the app are likely gone for good, unless you paid a data recovery company, but even then $100’s and no guarantee of success.
Scrivener does not save or backup files for you, except for the automatic “saves” and backups (on open or close, or upon your request).
The project “package” and backups are in the folders you put them into. Without you changing the locations in “Settings” they will be in the default locations.
From the sounds of it you need to restore your project “package” files and any Scrivener (automatically created) backup “zip” files from your system backup taken before you reset (nuked?) your machine. Hopefully you have full system backups, e.g. an Apple TimeMachine backup regime.
If by chance you are syncing your projects with an iOS device via Dropbox, you might find the project files there.
