Lost Chapter Label Colors

Hi,

I have been using Schrivener on a iPad since February 2018 to write a science fiction series. I have 12 books in final edit, and another six in-work. The chapter label colors have been used to record which chapters are complete (green), and which need work (red).

I was working away when suddenly all of the label colors disappeared on the chapter labels. If I now press and hold a chapter label the Settings screen pops up, and the name of my color choice shows up to the right on the Label line, but that is it.

If I create any new chapter in this or another existing project I can select any color I like, which again shows to the right of the Label line, but again the label is uncolored. I created a new project from the Projects screen but again I cannot see the chapter labels show any selected color.

It is also really weird that any attempt to compile a book by itself causes the software to compile the entire project. So I currently cannot compile my final book drafts to go on and create an ebook.

I am using an iPad Air 11 inch (M2), running iPadOS 26.1. It does seem weird that this is the only glitch experienced after a recent move to a new OS revision.

I was not using Dropbox to create backups for almost eight years, instead mailing myself RTF compiles of the project. $120 per year for an unpublished novelist in a long term project was not possible.

I now have used the basic version of Dropbox to create .scriv project files for every current project, and I have created duplicates slightly renamed of each project file in another folder in my Files app. So I am confident I will not loose years of work.

I do have a Mac.

It looks to me as if the software needs to be deleted and reloaded.

So, can anyone make specific suggestions a way forward?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Did this suddenly start happening with a device update? I wondering if maybe something got broken in the iPad system overnight. They are working fine for me, no changes in either the settings that tint the sidebar with label colours, or the colours in the inspector. But I’m still on 26.0.1 with the iPad.

Not to come down on the debate one way or another (I tend to avoid cloud stuff myself, particularly for syncing live work of any sort in any software), but that shouldn’t be necessary unless you have piles of research that also needs to be directly included inside the project instead of merely referenced from elsewhere. The free tier gives you 2GB of storage, which is an awful lot of text.

I would check your Label view settings: In the problem project, at the bottom of the Binder, tap the gear icon to show Project Settings. Under Options, tap Binder. Make sure (at least) Show Labels is switched on.

Good afternoon everyone,

THANK YOU gr!!!

It was my label settings. I did not know they existed.
