Minor big: Apostrophes break Scrivener Link suggestions

Thank you, Keith, for putting your time and passion into Scrivener. I’ve found it to be an amazing program.

I have a minor bug to report.

If I highlight a word which contains an apostrophe (’) and right-click >> select Scrivener Link >> that word will not display any link “suggestions”.

For example…
I have a character named “El’Eena”. (It’s a fantasy novel.) I have a character sheet named after her in my Research folder. If I want to create a Scrivener link to that character sheet, I need to manually hunt it down in the drop-down list.

The way I expect it to work is like it does for all other words. If I have another character, “Aric”, I can just highlight his name anywhere >> right click >> select “Scrivener Link” >> and his character sheet will be listed as a suggestion.

Hope this makes sense. Let me know if you have questions.

Hi,

Thanks for the kind words!

Actually, I don’t think it’s so much the fact that it is an apostrophe in there, but rather the fact that I bet your document title has a different kind of apostrophe. In the editor, apostrophes become curly apostrophes by default, but they don’t in titles. This is the reason it’s not finding the link - because the title of the document is “El’Eena” (with a straight apostrophe) but in the text it is “El’Eena” (with a curly apostrophe).

Anyway, I have just fixed this for the next update so that the suggestions treat curly and straight quotes and apostrophes the same. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

All the best,
Keith

Great, thank you, Keith. Appreciate the attention and the quick fix.
Best
