Minor Menu Tweak - Add "Project Search" to "Project Menu"

Version: 3.0.1.0 (1274647) 64-bit - 28 Apr 2021

I’d like to request a super-simple menu tweak-- could you all add (duplicate) the “Project Search” menu item in the “Project” menu? It is the most natural place in the world to look for this feature. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve needed it and had to sit and scratch my head to remember where I found it the last time.

Thanks!

I’d say THIS is the most natural place in the world to find project search. If the toolbar doesn’t look like that, customize it.

That or use the Ctrl-Shift-F shortcut.

I already have it t here. But I still think that adding it to the PROJECT menu (which is comparatively sparse, and consists entirely of adding an ACTION that likely already exists to the QT Menu-- a two or three minute exercise at most) would be simple enough.

What you are describing here is common throughout the Scrivener 3 for Windows UI, just as it was in Scrivener 1 for Windows. I don’t know what it’s like on the Mac side. But a certain inconsistency and incompleteness in the distribution of commands and features across menus, toolbars, and the keyboard, and an unfinished feel to many features, is a characteristic of the Scrivener environment as I experience it.

Don’t get me wrong - I just upgraded today, happily, and am enthusiastic about working in Scrivener on my current project. But that is despite what I just said.

Ask in the Wishlist forum, as this would be a UI change that would affect both Mac and Windows versions. It’s not a guarantee they’ll do anything with it, but it’s the best place to ask.

I am accumulating a list of simple little tweaks just like this one, destined for the Wish List forum.

E.g., the “Open” menu that appears when you right click a document in the binder should also appear on the main “Document” menu. Lots of things like that, other ways the menus need attention. Little “nothing” things, often especially resulting in enhanced keyboard usability. But they would need to want to do things like that, and recognize the need and value in it.

I feel that one of the most important features in a program like this, with this level of complexity, is a system that integrates the customization of menus, toolbars, and kb shortcuts, and that lets you put any command anywhere (as long as doesn’t break anything!) Scrivener’s kb shortcut system is better than many, but even it has that not quite finished quality. I’m glad it’s there but I am trying to stick with the native kb as much as I can. It’s Scrivener’s menus that need the makeover!

The kb shortcut options window is also useful as a searchable index of commands. It’s nice that it can stay open while working in the main app window.

.

Will do. That’s a sensible suggestion.

Is it possible for a MOD to move the message? Or should I just repost?

I actually totally agree with this comment. I would very much like the ability to reorder the menus (not that we’re ever likely to get that) as I think there are some items that would feel more intuitively placed if they could get moved (or even just duplicated). Far from wishing to push my ideas for order on anybody, I like the ability to rearrange things at will, both on the toolbars, menus, shortcuts, etc,

We already have many, MANY menu items, and your suggestions could amount to nearly doubling the number.
