Missing subfiles / old version of draft

I’ve been having problems with my laptop (long story) so I copied my files to an external hard drive, wiped my laptop and reinstalled Windows. I’ve been reloading files and programs and everything seems to be fine EXCEPT for one particular scrivener file. This was my most worked on project prior to the reboot, but looking at the files, it’s old drafts from several months ago (about the time I started having laptop problems…). The full subfile structure is there from before, but some of those subfiles are completely blank.

So even though the files were saved yesterday, were they not actually “saving”? It looks
like the backups have the same weird gaps. Is there anywhere else I can check, or am I just going to have to start trying to rebuild the gaps?

Did you copy the entire Project Folder? Looks like your SCRIVX is intact, but the actual files are missing…

I thought I had; all my other projects open with no problem. But since this was the one I was working on most lately, it was typically the one open when my computer would crash. When I reopened the file (before the hard drive wipe) all my updates were there, so that’s why I’m so confused now.

Do you have backups you can restore?

You did do backups to somewhere other than the computer you were working on?

The backups appear to have the same problem. Most of what I lost was notes/brainstorming vs actual writing, so at this point I’m just going to work on reconstructing it from memory.

Where were the backups and the project stored? Into a folder on your computer that is synced with a third-party cloud service? Symptom suggest you configured that service to have files be “online” and perhaps not fully downloaded to local drive.

Going forward, reconsider your backup regime. Famous last words, I know. I recommend the 3-2-1 backup regime (well explained on the internet).

If my hunch close to correct, you might find the missing files still there “online” saving your memory some work. Look with your browser to the online service (if that’s the situation).
