So I have received the following answer - maybe it is interesting for someone having the same Problem as I:

Obviously BibTeX bibliography support requires BibTeX. Which requires LaTeX.

You can use “MultiMarkdown citations” for exporting to HTML and other formats, but they are fairly limited compared to BibTeX.
