Can the mouse marker be darkened…made bigger or something as I lose my place because of the thin line the mouse has in the program???

Try using Block Insertion Point. Note that you can adjust its width. You’ll find those settings under Tools > Options > Editor.
Another thing you can try is in Windows itself. Go to Windows Control Panel and select Mouse. Under Pointer Options, enable “Show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key” and press OK. Then, next time you misplace your mouse, press the CTRL key.
