My desktop Windows PC blew up (literally) last week and I have decided to move to a iMac, which arrives in a few days. I have a 90% completed novel in Writeway on the PC. I have salvaged the Writeway file to my Windows laptop, but I hate writing on a laptop and I want to finish the novel on the iMac. But I’m short of time. Writeway doesn’t exist for the Mac, so I plan to move to Scrivener. I’ve downloaded a trial version to my Windows laptop, and I’m about halfway through the laborious process of cutting and pasting each Chapter and Scene from Writeway to Scrivener. Then it suddenly occurred to me that maybe it is not a trivial matter to port a Scrivener project from Windows to OS X.
So, guys, is it? Should I stop now, or carry on? Advice appreciated.
You will just be able to open the Windows project on your Mac, no problem, so you can carry on without fear. If you have any problems, just let us know. Thanks for your interest in Scriv!
Thanks for that reassuring reply, Keith. I’ll carry on with the transfer from Windows Writeway to Windows Scrivener pending the arrival of my Mac. I can see straight away that Scrivener is a much more versatile program than Writeway. Of course, that has its downside as well as its upside, but I’m very pleased with Scrivener so far.
Could you advise me on one thing? Am I right in thinking that the current Windows version is less fully featured than the current Mac version? It seems to me that the compile template options are less than those featured in the videos, unless I’m missing something.
Yes, you’re right, the Windows version is still some way behind the Mac version. The Mac version started development eight years ago, while the Windows version was only started about three years ago. The Windows team (which is only two people, and only one full-time) are working as hard as possible to get things caught up, but the Mac version will be ahead for a little while yet.
