I don’t like using MS Word, but find I need to keep a copy about to work with odd files from others. I currently have Mac Office X, but this offer will almost surely be less expensive than updating that copy in January.

For Friday, 11/23, MS is offering a $100 rebate on any version of Mac Office OS X, plus a free upgrade to the top MS Office 2008 Mac full version in January for $7.00 ship.

Since the deal applies to the Mac OS X Office Student/Teacher edition, you can buy that version from, say, Amazon at $129, get the $100 rebate, and have the full Office 2008 package in January for $7.00. Overall, the less one tosses at MS software, the better. Grin.

I wanted to say thanks again for this link.

I am a full-time PhD student and often must make use of Office for papers. It beats firing up Fusion and working in Windows.

Thanks for the tip - it was a great bargain. Scrivener more than replaces Word, but I admit to missing Excel at times. NeoOffice is a workable substitute, but I just can’t bring myself to like it and Numbers won’t do the most elementary things like freezing rows/columns.

I’m not sure what other’s experience has been with this “deal” but mine hasn’t been so good. :cry:

I keep getting emails from MS telling me my copy of office is on backorder, and they push back the ship date.

Funny, the copies available for full retail sale aren’t on backorder.
I guess it takes a lot more resources to produce a piece of plastic media when it’s discounted.

I’m certainly glad I don’t rely on MS software for anything. :unamused:

MS seems to be all over the board on this. I got my copy very soon after they started shipping, but they sent the wrong edition. A phone call, they sent the correct version, refunded all shipping, and told me to keep the first shipped version as well. Flakey, but that’s MS.
Of course, having read about all the problems folks were having with Office 2008 by that time, I decided I’d rather not have the junk on my MBP. So, I sold both copies on ebay. Netted about $350. :smiley:

Pitiful for a company with the resources of Microsoft.
