Multiple indents

Hello all, as most books are formatted with multiple indents, e.g.:

Chapter Heading [center]
First line, paragraph 1 [no indent]
Body text, paragraphs 2+ [indent]
Image
First line, paragraph 1 [no indent]
Body text, paragraphs 2+ [indent]
And so on…

Like this:

Note the first and second paragraph indents.

Soooo, is there any way to add multiple indents globally (as with most word processors)? Or can you only set one global indent style through Format > Options (either indent or no indent basically) and then you have to input each no indent (for example) by hand?

Thanks. F

There currently is not a way to have the indents changed automatically per paragraph. We have plans for a feature to remove the first-line indent for the first paragraph of specified documents during compile (e.g. to remove the first-line indent after empty lines and centred text), which should cover most cases. For now either you’ll want to handle this post-compile or do all your formatting in the editor (and then leave the “override formatting” option unchecked during compile) and add or remove the indent as necessary. The Ctrl+T and Ctrl+Shift+T shortcuts will increase or decrease the first-line indent, and new paragraphs will use the ruler settings of the paragraph preceding them.

Thanks Jen, good to know it’s in the pipeline.

Small but handy gizmo!

Back in 2013 this post said you were working on setting up first line indent, but although it does this for Mac, I can’t find it in the Windows version. Has it been included, is it going to be included, and how do we do it otherwise?
Thanks.

Given L&L’s stated goal of catching the Windows version up to parity with the Mac version by the end of the year… if it’s currently in the Mac version, we’ll presumably see it in the Windows version then.

As for how to do it otherwise for the time being, see MimeticMouton’s note above…

Hope that helps.
