I’m on a Mac and haven’t had technical issues with scrivener ever. Today though, I opened my manuscript and started to write. a few minutes later I double checked the word count for my manuscript. Yesterday, it was 52k. This morning it is showing 30k, and also that I have 0 words written today (even though I have been writing). I panicked and thought I’d deleted something, so I double checked and nothing looked different. I decided to do the math and it turns out I still have 52k. I don’t know why it is telling me that I only have 30k. Just to be safe I saved a backup, but I am wondering why this is happening?

I don’t at first glance know what the issue is and others might know or know of a link already here that explains it.
Just checking … you have the automatic saves on inactivity set to 2-seconds or something so that if something does go wrong you have a recent save of your project? Saving a project backup (not “save-as”) as you did is of course a good idea.
I’m wondering if a re-boot of your Mac might help?
