NAS Drive for use with Apple (Big Sur and Mojave) M1 and Intel machines

Can any of you Mac-users recommend a network drive for use as a TimeMachine backup for three Macs, two running Big Sur, the other running Mojave (currently). Importantly, set up and administration must be straightforward.

Synology and Qnap are two options with pricing for low end to mid/high range.

If you want to look a little higher end the guys st OWC have some TB devices.

I can also add praise and reccs for the Synology. My hardcore devops software architect buddy uses them at home to replace the home-built storage cluster he used to use, and it works with his mix of Windows, Mac Intel, Mac M1, and Linux machines with no problems.

The trick may be finding enough affordable drives if you’re looking for capacity; there are a couple of crypto variants currently in the works that use drive space the way Bitcoin and Etherium v1 use GPU, so some of the normal vendors have put limits on how many drives you can buy at a time.

Synology makes their software documentation available online so you can read and consider before purchase.
