I watched some YouTube videos on this but it’s not working for me. Here’s the situation:
I’m doing all my writing in Scrivener, but my original document is in MS Word. I copy-paste text from Word into my project template and have at it. I’d like to set a default format that I can then apply to each scene as I write it.
The instructions I’m trying to follow are basically this: I select ALL, then set the margins by going to Format --Ruler, and dragging the indicator to the right a few clicks to set my preferred margin. Then, I pull the first indent back to flush so that each scene in the “default format” I’m creating starts with a flush paragraph. Then I title this default template and apply it to any doc I wish to.
However, what happens is that when I pull the ruler over, it does NOT create nice paragraph indents…so obviously I’m doing something wrong. Help!
To set a default format for all future documents, go to Tools menu > Options, then Editor. Make adjustments in the sample editing window there, using the various controls for margins, font, size, etc. Click OK, and all future documents will use that format.
To apply that format to an existing document, go to Documents menu > Convert > Formatting to Default Text Style.
Thank you, David. I did that, it’s okay, but I guess I just live with the minor annoyance of not being able to have each new scene start with no indent, then proceed with indents on all future paragraphs…I can do this after the fact, but moving the paragraph flush with the margin(i.e. no indent) affects automatic return-indent function for new paragraphs that all fiction writers pretty much depend on. It would be nice if Scrivener were more “Word-like” in that regard, but I count my blessings.
