The keyboard shortcut for Open a New Folder is a little maddening, because it’s different from the Open a New Folder shortcut in Finder; I can never remember which is which - one is cmd-alt and the other cmd-shift, I think. Any chance of using the same shortcut?
No, because shift-cmd-N is standard for creating new projects/documents throughout OS X. Opt-cmd-N is fairly simple to remember, but if you really get so confused you can always change the keyboard shortcuts yourself using the OS X System Preferences “Keyboard” pane, which allows you to modify keyboard shortcuts for any application.
