Hello everyone,
I’m using Scrivener on Windows 11 and on ancient iPad pro, but I do favor the portability of the iPad… which is unfortunately showing its age.
Lately, I’ve been looking at the new iPad pro 11 and the 13 inch models, and I have to say that the only reason I would buy one would be to use for Scrivener.
Any non-writing work I do is on my Linux desktop. I’m primarily an old Linux guy.
So basically, I have Windows and IOS for one reason only… and that is Scrivener.
What I hope to gain in upgrading to the new iPad is clarity of the writing space. I have a light sensitively vision condition. I rely strongly on dark modes in the software I use.
It is easy in Scrivener Windows, to make a very easy on the eye interface in Scrivener.
It is workable on my old iPad using accessibility options and smart invert. But that still isn’t that great.
The IOS Scrivener dark mode with white text on gray is better than the light mode, but not by a lot.
You can do the smart invert and actually get a black background with white text, but the only problem I have with that is in the on-screen keyboard having some glaring white elements to it that are kinda distracting.
I tried the Google keyboard and the Microsoft one as well and have not been able to eliminate the white bits thru settings. It might be that better understanding of these keyboards might give me better results… but at the end of the day… my iPad stopped getting updates at IOS 17 so I think it’s time to go.
This brings me to my questions…
I’m wondering if any of you here are using one of the new iPads with the 11 or 13 inch oled screens?
What are your thoughts on Scrivener IOS on the new models?
Also, is the dark mode on the new iPads better than on the old?
Do you find the contrast and brightness better?
At the end of the day, I’m wondering if buying a pricey tablet is going to give me what I’m looking for.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
